Questionnaire for Players about the new ITF Ranking-Point-System of 2019

The ITF introduced a new ranking-point-system for 2019 (link here). With this new system, players can earn much more points in 2019 than in 2018. The new categories offer higher amounts of points, and in addition to this, organisers can offer bundles to receive even more ranking-points for their tournaments. In general, that is a great idea to motivate organisers to focus also on these additional services. Unfortunately, there was no time period for a transition of these two systems given by the ITF. Many players contacted us during the last weeks with questions about this new system. Therefore, we would like to give all the players the possibility to use this questionnaire to give us a proper feedback, which we can communicate with the ITF afterwards.

Until the 31st of December 2018 we had the “old system”, and starting on the 1st of January 2019 we now have a different system, but the ranking-points are valid for 52 weeks (one year) from the moment you earn the points. That means that players on the ITF Tour will be faced to mix two different ranking-point-systems until the 31st of December 2019, because there is an uneven ratio of points earned in 2018 in comparison with 2019.

Example 1:

  • The winner of the 10.000$ in Garopaba (12/18, or any other 10.000$ tournament in 2018) received 80 points; and the winner of Monopoli/Thailand 10.000$ + bundles (01/19) received up to 140 points

Example 2:

  • The winner of the World Championships 2018 received 280 points, the winner of Aruba/Kazan 2018 (50.000$) received 250 points, whereas the winner of Reunion/Gran Canarias (15.000$ + bundles) receive 270 points. Category 1 (2019) winners receive up to 520 points for the winners. For all other categories and rounds of the tournament it is similar.

Based on these facts, we proposed four different solutions. They are described below.

Solution 1 - No changes

  • 2019 points as introduced
  • 2018 points not converted

Solution 2 - Only bundle points change

  • 2019 points as introduced, but additional bundle points are reduced (f.e. 50 %)
  • 2018 points not converted

Solution 3 - 2019 ranking points system will be postponed

  • For the 2019 results will be applied the 2018 point system. Only in June 2019 or starting from 2020 the 2019 system will be introduced (and 2019 points converted)

Solution 4 - 2018 ranking points system will be recalculated with 2019 system

  • For the 2018 results will be applied the 2019 (as long as it is possible). Bundle conditions in 2018 events are considered where known.

In order to give the ITF a feedback from the players, we would like to know your opinion on the following questions.
